Preparing pictures for your blog using Photoshop or Gimp

We recommend you to add always a picture, graphic or video to your post. People like visuals and they don´ t want to read just plain text. If you take a picture with your camera, they will be probably too big for your website or blog. A normal camera takes pictures with a bigger resolution than 1024×768 pixels (that’s bigger than a normal screen or a blog size). A normal picture will have a size (in MegaBytes) of between three and ten MB. That’s too big for a website, you just need between 30 and 60 kB or 100 kB for a wallpaper. Changing the size and resolution of a picture is very easy. You can use Photoshop, Gimp or another program for that. Remember also that google likes pictures that have a ratio of  4:3. For example: 800×600 px

Photoshop is one of the most powerful and used photo editing software. It´s very professional. The disadvantage of Photoshop is the price. It´s very expensive. You can download a free version (30 days trial) on Adobe´s official website. On the next link you will find a tutorial for preparing pictures for a blog with Photoshop.

If you want some free editing software, we recommend you Gimp. As it is free it is used by a lot of people in America and all over the world. It´s not as powerful as Photoshop but for a blog, website or for your private pictures its perfect. If you want to download Gimp and know how to use it, go to our Gimp tutorial.

Keep in mind that for a normal post it´s more than enough if your picture has a width of 700 pixels and the size is 50 k. Depending on your blog you will have to adjust the size. Just try it out. Remember that as bigger the size of a picture (in kB) as longer it takes to load it.
