Easy and tiny tutorial for using Photoshop

Photoshop is not a free software, but you can download a trial version at the official website of Adobe.

First of all you have to open the picture you want to work with. Go to “File” (at the main menu) and press on “Open”.
If you just want to select a part of the picture keep reading, if not, go to the next paragraph.
For selecting just a part of a picture you have to use the “Rectangular Marquee Tool”. After selecting it go to “Edit” and “Copy” or use the shortcut “Ctrl+C”. Now you will need a new file. You will find it when pressing on “File” (from the main menu) and “New…”. The canvas will automatically have the correct size, you don´t have to change anything. Paste your copied selection by pressing on “Edit” and “Copy” or use the shortcut “Ctrl+V”.

For changing the physical size (pixels) of the picture just go to “Image” and press on the button “Image Size…” of the drop down menu. Now you can change the size by changing the value. The easiest way to do that is to change the units to pixels (px).

For uploading the picture to your blog you have to save the image as “jpg”. We recommend you to do that by “Save for Web & Devices…” from the “File” menu or by using the shortcut “Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S”. A new window opens and you can change the quality of the picture. Doing that the size of the image (in Bytes) will sink. As higher the quality as bigger the size of the picture will be.
The first time you do this you should save the picture with different qualities and choose the one that best fits to your blog.

At the end you will get a feeling for the correct relation between quality and size.
